Lulu rocks, well she does but that’s by the by, as this post is about my love of using rocks and contrasting their ruggedness, textures, colours and shapes with the smoothness of the human form. Rocks are super platforms to use with models. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours, giving experienced location models such as the wonderful Lulu Lockhart the opportunity to use them as a playground.
There are some issues for the model, they can be quite rough, sharp and uncomfortable to pose on, and also depending on their shape it can be difficult to get an interesting pose.
We found a location with a great pile of boulders, that were just hurled around by some seismic activity many thousands of years ago. In one of them there was a great indent that just looked like where a model belonged. For this contemplative pose I felt the square crop worked best.
For the lying down shot I went for a horizontal but also flipped the image.
The light was quite contrasty, so we found this Lulu-shaped hole where she could pose in and which framed her beautifully. I went for mono as the colours were a but too bright and distracted from the image.
We then moved into the shade of a cave and found this interestingly shaped rock. There was not much a platform to pose on, but did created this really super pose that I think mirrors the shape of the rock brilliantly.
I really like the lines in this rock. There was a quite thin ledge but again Lulu managed very well and I love the shape of this pose.
Again in a cave there were some lovely coloured rocks. I could have popped the colours, but I think when copper or green are too bright they can be a bit garish.
And another mono. I just love that huge rock balanced at the top of the image, and another superb pose from Lulu.
Many thanks to Lulu, our shoots are always extremely enjoyable and productive. She is a great location model, willing to endure discomfort when necessary for a good image, and also coming up with her own ideas. We got many more great shots from this shoot, so do look out for them, and we’ve got other interesting places planned for this year as well, and even into next year!

Exquisite work! The stunning beauty of nature. The texture and elegant softness combined is breath taking. I am only left to ask if you sell your prints ?
Many thanks for your kind words Rachel, and thank you for taking the time to comment. I like my nudes to appeal to both men and women, so it’s always nice when women make comments and appreciate what I am trying to do. I’ve messaged you about prints.
