Portugal Bound

I like my photography to be nice and simple, which is why I recently found myself bound for Portugal with a model for a joint shoot with a Dutch photographer Francisca, who I first met in Dublin when I was visiting Ciaran. Don’t worry it’ll all become clear later, and this is before we even got to the airport.
I was taking Holly with me as our model. Although she has a very distinctive look I find that I never tire of working with her, she is very versatile, we work together well as a team, and I find we are always trying to create something new and exciting every time.
I thought it would be a shame to just drive straight from her home to the airport without taking the odd snap or two. A fellow photographer from a forum was going to act as guide and spotter for us at locations he knew near the airport, and then disaster! He emailed me the afternoon before we went away to say that he had broken his wrist and wouldn’t be able to help us. So rather rapidly on the evening before our flight Holly and I came up with a a location each en route, and here’s a few of the results.

First we have a wonderful barn, the light was quite low but beautiful quality.

This arch had superb backlighting and although I am usually a colour worker I quite like the mono shot.

Our second location was a stately home which had numerous interesting locations within the grounds. The weather was not brilliant, and there were obviously quite a few members of the public about, so we did some rare portraits for me which I really enjoyed.

And while I have said that Holly is versatile, she also has the perfect pre-raphaelite look, which fitted in very well with the location we were at, so here’s a few I am very pleased with.
As Holly and I have worked together so often I do find that we are able to make the best of a location, even when we neither of us have been there before so we are playing it by ear. In this case the door was my idea, and the flower’s were Holly’s.

And a Tim/Holly post has to really end with a nude.

I am really very pleased with these images, after all we hadn’t even got to the airport to start our shoot in Portugal, so these were definitely a bonus. I’m also trying out my new post-processing workflow with these images.

Regular blog readers will notice that I have turned over a new leaf and have got these images out pretty quickly – we only got back this Monday morning – this is because of some gentle prodding by Holly who quite rightly pointed out that most photographers would love to have the number of shoots and images I have, and that images are taken to be seen which is rather difficult to do when they are on my hard disk. So these aren’t the final selection of images from that day, and are not fully finished images, but I think they are suitable for a blog post to give you a flavour of what we produced.

Get ready for a mini tidal wave of images and posts over the next couple of months, including lots of images from our Portugal trip. If I can work on, print and mount 50 images over a bank holiday weekend for an exhibition, then I can definitely up my output rate of images for this blog, plus we have quite a few bank holiday’s coming up.

A big thank you to Holly, this whole trip was probably my most productive shoot ever, and I already have a trip to Brittany planned with her in a few months time. Finally, Andrew get well soon.

Had a look through the images for the other days of this trip, too many great images!!
But I am working images from these and other shoots, and adding items to my Forthcoming Posts sections as model remind me.

These are beautiful photographs. Great color and composition. I am impressed with your sense of balance in using the corner of the room for Holly’s head-shots. In the archway photograph you composed beautifully in dealing with the arch shadow.
