Many photographers use the start of a new year to decide on which new models they want to work with. I don’t have the time or the inclination to do that, also I have found that I’m regularly contacted by models I haven’t worked with – something I’m happy for them to do – many of whose work I find I like, and I then book them. Plus I’m very satisfied with the models I have already worked with, and find that the images often improve the more I work with a model.
When I’m working with a model I actively encourage them to be part of the image-making process. I always feel that two minds will produce better images than one, especially as models will often have a different outlook and ideas, and have experience of far more shoots.
The model I work with the most is the talented Lulu Lockhart, who is fortunately quite local to me. Since we started working together just over eighteen months ago we have produced a great variety of images, including some of my all time favourites. We work together very well, so much so that probably as many of the ideas for our images come from Lulu as from myself, and often when one of us has an idea the other will develop it to produce the finished article, so the images really are a team effort.
On top of all that she’s a great model, with looks and a figure that suit the style of images I like to create, and she’s great at producing poses that fit into the environment. It’s easy to see why I book her so often, to me she’s more than a super model with beautiful looks, she inspires me to want to keep producing more and more images of her, she’s a co-creator of the images, and she’s now a good friend – all in all a thoroughly modern muse.
Here’s a very small selection of the recent images created by us:
We’ll start with a very recent image from a really productive shoot just after Christmas, lighting was from two windows either side and behind her.
The next set of images were from a great day where I worked with the talented photographer Thomas Bichler, I do find working with other photographers both enjoyable as well as creative.
Lulu is extremely versatile, just as much at home working indoors as outside.
Most of the images we produce are in colour, but I also love the mono version of this image, which has a quite timeless quality.
And I just love the variety of poses she comes up with, always perfect for the location and my composition.
Thank you Lulu for creating such great images with me, making our shoots so enjoyable, and for all your support. I’m really looking forward to the adventures we have planned for this year.
