Ella Rose – The Bather |
In the case of my sole pre-prepared idea I was obviously providing direction to the model and I had some difficulty describing the pose to Kayleigh, and I was certainly not going to do it myself, so I drew it. I think we can all see why I took up photography and not drawing :)
En Pointe – The Concept Drawing :) |
Kayleigh is such an amazing talent that after looking at my remarkably life-like drawing (!) she did it first-time around. She asked whether she should do it again, I checked the back of the camera for exposure and focus, told here no as I thought we had nailed it, and we moved on to doing a back view version of it. I do get asked regularly whether she is doing a headstand or handstand, and I honestly haven’t got a clue. Only she would know, if she even remembers!

And the most important thing, have fun and enjoy your photography, otherwise all those shiny things and letters after your name don’t mean anything.

Interesting read with beautiful images xx
Glad you enjoyed it Elizabeth, as you can read I have no secrets!
Stunning Tim, stunning. I’m a huge fan of black and white, love heavy inky blacks and lots of contrast. Pensive is almost perfect, so simple.
Pensive looks amazing in black and white too.
Thanks Biddster, many of my colour images are quite monochromatic anyway, but I shall certainly be trying more monochrome conversions in future :)
A good read, Mr Pile. I often fail to appreciate the prep work that goes into your projects. Getting all that out of the way must make the actual shoot much more enjoyable. It goes to show you that effort is 90% of anything.
I am disappointed that this post only has one door. :)
Thank you Mr Pope, you are correct that the vast majority of the work is beforehand, so when the day of the shoot comes its only then that I can really relax. And 90% perspiration/10% inspiration is pretty spot on.
I hadn’t actually thought about the doors, there may only be one but what a splendid door it is!
Excellent Tim….You well deserve your ‘Golds’…. but how do you find all your competitions…? The only photo club I know is in Banff and they seem to spend 99% of their time discussing GEAR….!
best

Thank you Rod, All of the exhibitions are run under the auspices of FIAP (Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique) which as you can guess is an international body. Current interesting ones in your neck of the woods are The Scottish Salon http://www.scottish-photographic-salon.org/ and the Edinburgh International Exhibition of Photography – http://www.edinburghphotosalon.org/ both are print only and prestigious exhibitions.
