“This image has been staying in my mind for weeks as I’ve been wondering how to express its effect on me… As someone who loves ballet I found it rather shocking, rather profane at first, but on second blush, it’s really quite witty and ingenious.
The way the skirt is positioned and flares (seemingly over hips) and brushes the ground creates the illusion of a full-length romantic tutu — just enough to be quite disorienting, so that as the eye rises the legs become some strange appendages on an alien creature.
At the same time the image strikes me as a brilliant illustration of Balanchine’s famous dictum “Ballet is Woman” – not only making that point bluntly by confronting us with her sex where one would expect to meet a face, but also in emphasizing that prime attraction of ballet: a ballerina’s legs. They tower majestically, commandingly, like icons to revere. That’s my kind of cross.”
Thank you Randall, I could never explain it as beautifully as you.

Congratulations Again. You have a unique gift when it comes to the camera and selection of models.
Thanks Donny, and the models make all the difference.
Mr Pile, you describe yourself as being “very cautious”. I would argue that your Ballerina is anything but “cautions”. I suggested earlier that you should “go nuts” and take chances. Maybe you already are in your own way.
So I conclude, just keep going, pick up that camera, shoot away! SHOOT AWAY! …………………okay?
Mr Pope, you are correct that upside down ballerina is a bit different for me, but it’s still about the shapes. Unfortunately many Brits see it as being about something different!
I will take your advice and keep on shooting :)
The middle ‘Holly’ photo is beautiful.
Thank you Shane, I see we have a similar taste in models from your MM profile, and you have some great images.
Congrats on number 10 Tim
Thanks Richard, and I see the medals are rolling in for you :)
Hi Tim
Many congrats on your coninued success. It is without doubt richly deserved.
I find myself having to comment on En Pointe. I simply cannot understand why we humans, or rather some of us, see nudity and especially images revealling the more intimate areas of a womans body as anything else than wonderfully beautiful?
En Pointe is such a beautiful image. Simple in many aspects yet wonderfully complex in many others and not least of all the aspect revealling Kayleighs sex.
I fully appreciate one mans poison is anothers nectar, but come on you critics, this is not pornography, it is sheer and utter beauty and it is a part of who we all are.
Well done Tim your work is sublime.
Paul
You are very kind Paul, and as long as people like you appreciate the images I create with these wonderful models then that’s all that matters.
[…] it is currently my most successful image as you can see from a previous blog post. So in summary I don’t really have pre-prepared ideas, or direct the model that much, but […]
