It’s quite amazing that you can often travel to most of Europe on a budget airline for a lower cost than travelling 100 miles or so with many UK train operators. This opens up so many interesting shoot locations, so off I went with the lovely Elle Beth to the beautiful city of Vienna. I have to confess that this shoot was nearly 2 years ago, and most of the images lay unforgotten on my hard drive until I recently got around to editing a few after doing a more recent shoot with Elle.
The plan had been to get up early on our first morning there to do some sneaky street shots when there weren’t too many people about. Unfortunately we had a 4 hour delay in taking off, during which time we were stuck in the plane on the runway. So we arrived very early the following morning, and totally shattered, and this rather messed up our plans but we still managed to get some great shots.
We started off with a few in the apartment we were in:
It had a really cool chandelier, and I’d taken a few props which seemed to suit it.
And this is a bit different from my normal style, but I quite like all the lines and the chandelier and pattern on the ceiling.
We did get to shoot outdoors, and got some great shots. I think I would do a better job now with the greater experience I have gained over the past 2 years, plus my new camera would handle the low light much better.
This was an interesting shot to get!
I even took a dress.
And from memory there were rather quite a few tourists to the left of this shot, but by careful positioning of the cape they were blissfully unaware of what was going on :)
It was quite dull as it was early in the morning, but I think the lighting and grey sky actually worked better for this image.
They have some magnificent fountains.
And sometimes it’s nice to get a sense of the scale of the place.
We have a great, but very tiring time, and thanks are due to Elle for doing a great job, as usual. I’ve shot with her a number of time since, and those images will hopefully not take as long to appear :-s The images from our most recent shoot were particularly great :)

Loved your photos, Mr Pile. To myself I often explain your talent in
being able to find the clean and crisp settings. I know that’s an oversimplification
of your work but that’s the framework I use for studying your photos. As always,
I always look forward to seeing what you are up to!
Thank you, as always, Mr Pope for your considered comment. I like your phrase ‘clean and crisp’, I like to think that my compositions get the balance of things just right, and fortunately it’s just what comes naturally to me.
Good to see some more images from this trip Tim, can’t delieve it was two years ago that we there in Linz for the Trieenberg awards together.
Good images and location too.
Cheers Richard, time does fly indeed, and it was a very tricky location!
One last thing….. Did Elle’s cape work match the cape work of Holly’s October, 2010 work? :)
Silly me!
You have an extremely good memory Mr Pope, and I did remember that shot when doing the more recent one. There’s nothing wrong with re-using good poses :)
It was a total fluke that I clicked on some past blog dates of yours and magically there was that cape pose again!
