Which came first the chicken or the egg? On a similar note I’m often asked whether I choose a location first or a model and then the location, and the answer is I am constantly looking for interesting locations and interesting models, and when I find a good one of either I will then search for the best match of the other.
A model who had been on my ‘want to work with’ list for some time is the stunning Zoi. While she lives in The Netherlands I noticed that she was visiting the UK and managed to get a booking with her. Usually I don’t agree a date with a model until I have the location sorted, but on this occasion I had a fixed date and time, and I even knew it had to be in London, but I had no location. Fortunately Zoi put me in touch with another photographer she was also working with, and he was most helpful and suggested quite a few potential locations that we could use to split a days booking. I do find that networking helps a lot with finding locations, as most photographers are really friendly and willing to share their locations.
After some deliberation we ended up in a penthouse, and to me with Zoi’s looks and figure she just looks as if she belongs there. I felt it was a perfect match, I love working with all the other models I work with, but their strengths lie elsewhere and I don’t think any of them would have really done this place justice, as much as Zoi has done.
I had to do a couple of trademark viewpoint from above shots.
The smog over London has never looked so beautiful.
Many thanks to Zoi, and to Kevin for letting me share his location list. Now just need to find a more spectacular location so I can book her again.
