The past few months have given me lots of time to contemplate, edit images, and share images with friends and fellow photographers using the ubiquitous Zoom.
I’ve now given more than 10 talks to camera clubs using Zoom, all from the comfort of my office/workroom. I also take part in regular Zoom meetups with fellow photographers, and as part of one of the things we are doing we’ve been asked to think about what inspires us in our photography.
While I do like look at images from great photographers – I got the great tomes of Newton and Salgado as a retirement present from work – after giving it some thought I do believe that my images and my style have developed by being inspired by the wonderful young women I work with and the interesting locations where we produce our images, more so than external influences. This was reinforced over the past few months as I started editing more images from my back catalogue, now that my post-processing skills and the post-processing software have greatly improved since they were originally taken.
Our different age and gender means we have a different viewpoint and perspective on many things, and two heads are better than one certainly applies when we are on location producing our images. Sadly many photographers treat a model as an object to be photographed, rather than the empowered and enthusiastic, creative young woman that they are. I have certainly changed for the better in many ways from working with them.
So here’s some of the gems that I’ve recently found in my back catalogue and edited. Starting with a couple of the irrepressible Raphaella from way back early in my model photography journey,
This one was from a great trip to see my friend and talented photographer Francisca, and it’s the lovely Kayleigh Lush who was a super location model and also dancer.
Another model who was always full of ideas, including this one, was Romi Muse. Sadly we only got to shoot once together as she lives in Spain.
And it will come as no surprise that my back catalogue contains lots of gems of the wonderful Lulu. We’ve been working together over 6 years now and these are from just the first couple of years.
This first set were from a trip to see Hakon, a shoot that just keeps on giving.
Many thanks not just to Raphaella, Kayleigh, Romi and Lulu, but to all of the models who have inspired me over the years, and who have created with me a body of work that give me so much pleasure,

Congratulations on your retirement, Mr Pile. I hope this new freedom will allow you to achieve your photographic goals. I so look forward to seeing your quirky work! đ
Thank you Mr Pope, I hope you are well in these strange times. I look forward to producing more work when I am able.
Great work Tim. I like your humor and tasteful care for Ms Irelandâs subtle beauty. Kinda like a young âAMERICAN GOTHICâ lass. Would be cool seeing your shadow at her back, to the windowâs right too.
Thank you for sharing your work study.
Thanks Chris. I try not to be too serious in my ramblings or my imagery.
Hi Tim,
Thank you for showing us your work. It is always a great pleasure to see your images, normal or quirky! Please continue to show us more.
John
Thank you John, hope you are well.
The most striking images here I think are the one of Romi Muse coming out of the window with one of the shutters askew and the one with Lulu in the broken window frame in the yellow and red building. In the first it looks like Romi has erupted from the window knocking the shutter off it’s hinges and in the second Lulu looks like she has been impaled through the neck by one of the sash grilles. Such violence!!
I hope you are well my friend. It’s quite interesting to see some of the images that I’d missed in the past, and those two you mentioned are a bit different, the Romi one is especially pertinent in this crisis.
